Roger Federer, Greatest Of All Time Tennis Player, generally awesome guy. Today I typo'd at him, and he replieeeeeed.
 photo rogertweet.jpg
And he said Stannnnn. And he called Stan a mannnnn.
Or "the man", even, we all know Stan's a man.
And he mentioned Yves, and then Yves retweeted it, and that made me almost as excited as being replied to in the first place.
(And he said Tommy, who I also like a bit.)

Basically, today is the best day ever.
(Unless someone I like dies later on, that would take the shine off the day, but still it would probably be one of my favourite days despite the bereavement. I hope I didn't just jinx anyone though. None of you die, that's an order. You'll be responsible for ruining my special day.)

Heeeeee!

(He's still doing a Q&A as of now (13:40 GMT...or are we still BST? 13:40 in Britain), if you want to ask him stuff too, btw.) He's stopped now.

ETA: Stan RT'd it too now, hooray! So perfect. Or should I say peRFect?
No, but seriously, as of now, over 0.6% of Roger Federer's tweets are to me.
 photo cute_puppy.gif
I must confess I fell asleep after Stan lost the first set, having rather written it off. Because it's Stan, and it's Berdych, and while I know Stan can play well (he's not the 9th seed for nothing), I also know that in many ways any slam which he doesn't lose in the first round of is a success, and before this tournie he hadn't won consecutive matches since before Wimbledon so getting to the fourth round here is good and fine and brilliant. But to wake up and find that he won?! There was much squeeage, negl.
 photo image.jpg

And then I read about the crowd shouting "We want Federer" at him, and had to talk myself out of flying to New York to sort these morons out. Eventually calmed myself down by staring at this pic

Now to face this guy. (Don't worry Muzz, I won't hold it against you if you win...)
 photo _69635498_murray.jpg

Bonus perk: Yves has gone into full on protective mother-hen mode over his boys on Twitter. I <3 him.
 photo yvestweet.jpg
And it's a good day for the Swisses in general, Marco and Steph have both done winning in St Remy against the first and second seeds.

(Re: this post's title - full respect to Tommy for beating Federer, and his comeback in general is amazing, and you all know I love anyone with a one-handed backhand, but as a Kohli-fan there is always part of me who thinks "cheaty lie-y tosspot!" everytime I see him, and additionally I'm beginning to find Fed's losses less unexpected and more a little sad (it's the end of an era![/Rachel Greene]). So, you know...I like this upset better.)
First title since January 2011 :DD
 photo 168104449.jpg
Well done, Stan. But try to win a tournie with a less fugly trophy next time, there's a good boy.

(...Soz, Ferru. But you got to win the final in Buenos Aires, so fair's only fair.)

With my dissertation finished, and only one essay and one exam left of my university career, I should possibly be thinking about what I should do afterwards....

But it's much more fun to look at all the cuteness from the tennis world that I've missed while I've been doing focussing.

Kohli and Feli went on a date to play with the dolphins! (With some other dudes.)
 photo miami13.png
Spanish-German OTP. I love that Kohli is blatantly in a wetsuit a size smaller than all the others. And also this video, where Jo, Feli and Seppi all say vaguely intelligent things about the dolphins ("they're so agile", "they're so clever", etc) and Kohli's just amazed at how big they are. "They always seem so small in the TV." I love Kohli, he's such a moron. (Cf. his inability to say the phrase "seven-six in the third" at 0:15 an again at 1:25...I'm so cruel, bullying the English as additional language speakers...but I just find it so adorable, and Kohli's an idiot in German too, so I don't feel too bad about him.)

 photo bmw13-1.png
He and Tommy also had fun playing tennis with some men who usually do driving not tennising. Glock and Spengler? I don't follow F1, I only know Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso, and that one who is in the Head and Shoulders advert whose name escapes me. This Timo Glock chappie is effing adorbs though, so I may have to start taking an interest. Plus Kohli and Bruno seem to have already sorted out where their second double date will be, which is sweet.

Announcement: While I am happy for Sr Robredo to be back and playing and winning after all the injury troubles he's had, he is quickly exhausting my good will. In the last month he's taken out Robin, Tobi and Stan (...and Stan's wife). Well, Tommy, consider this your warning, no more special treatment. You have clearly had plenty of recovery time, as indicated by that title that what you won, so you are no longer excluded from any irrational hatred from my direction should you beat any more of my boys.
 photo 2fd8dc64-07bf-4b1c-b6c1-ef0069cef2f2.jpg
Yes, I thought that would make you think.

Stan did beat Muzz in Monte Carlo though, which was nice except Andy was just playing really badly so it wasn't a totally satisfying win. (Stan disagrees with my assessment, there: "I was playing really good, he wasn't playing that good. And that's perfect for me." *cheeky smile*.) He also got to go on an awkward little sailing trip in Portugal with Vesnina.

With Stan (and Ferru) in the final in Oeiras and Kohli in the final (and Dima and Jarkko and Marcos all in the doubles final) in Munich, all is looking good for this week.

Me, ten minutes before the match: I don't really mind who wins, I <3 them both, I'm just pleased they both made the final. I'm perfectly happy whatever the result :)))

Me, ten minutes into the match: STAN, I WANT YOU TO LITERALLY KILL HIM. WIN THIS SHIT GDI.

Me, ten minutes after the match: Aww, yay, Ferru :DDDD Poor Stan, but yay David, yay :DDDD

(I'm not being (consciously) disingenuous about this. My loyalties seem to change with the tide sometimes.)

What a nice tennis week it was though - Feli made a final, Colin won a title, Sania won a title, and Karin made a semi, as did Boy and Kevin. All good. (...It's so much easier to keep up with these things when there's no Challengers...)

(Sorry, Marco. You do know I love you too, right? Because you're fabulous, and I completely underestimated you because this was so much more than I was expecting, even though I should /know/ you can do this...I forgot 2007 so soon. Forgive me?)

On a lighter note, it cannot only be me who thinks dirty things when they see this picture.
Photobucket
...Too soon?

On a bitchier note, how does anyone on earth find Berdych attractive?
Photobucket
I mean, really now. And a hat indoors? Ick.
London 2012 finished this week. Sads. What did I even use to do with my time before I spent all day watching things like water polo and wheelchair rugby? (Is whaterpolo broadcast any other time of the year, btw? It appeals to me, for the shallowest of reasons.) Murray's done his best to fill the gap by being Mr Awesome McAwesome, and there's DC this weekend, and then Strictly Come Dancing is getting going, so that'll fill my time, so actually maybe I won't miss the Games as much as I thought I would....

But in any case, to lesson the trauma of the potential Olympics-withdrawal, here is a post of my favourite Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Some of them I've liked for a while, others only caught my eye this summer, but needless to say they're all awesome (because they're at the Olympics) and hot (because, as covered, I'm shallow). I've excluded Olympian tennis players and footballers btw. This post would be ages long otherwise, and I've posted a lot about people in those sports already. Also, sorry about my slight bias towards Team GB.

So look at the pretty, and then share your fave Olympians in the comments if you like.

Alan Oliveira welcomes you in... )

Up next: idk, I keep meaning to do a massive post about How I Met Your Mother which I've become completely obsessed with lately (if anyone wants to rec me good fics I'd be verygrateful - my favourite pairings are Barney/Robin, Ted/Barney, Ted/Lily, Lily/Robin, Barney/Lily and Ted/Barney/Robin, and ideally I would like to read things that are non-angsty...or if, as I'm discovering in this fandom, that's not possible, then at least something with a non-tragic ending), or a post on my favourite pornstars....or just anything really, I feel guilty leaving this journal so empty.

Or maybe I'll do a post on how the biggest Roger/Stan shipper in the world seems to be Stan himself. This morning he has already retweeted people saying that he and Roger are the best couple ever and the greatest love story since Twilight, and it's not even 9am. There's a reason he's my favourite.
What could be cuter than this?

For the first time in my life ever I was actually on schedule with writing essays, and then I lost my memory stick, so these last three/four days have been the most stressful ever as I tried to rewrite 9,000 about the British constitution, the English School, and why no one likes the EU. I now loathe all three of those things with a passion.

But anyway. That's over now, and I can shift my focus to Christmasier things (speaking of which, please leave me your address if you haven't already, because I would like to send you something...though it will only be cards this year, because I spent all my money on Pro-Plus and Maltesers while writing my essays). Also, Simmier things. I have become completely addicted to the Facebook version, and have made my own little Roger and Stan. This is Stan:

Because Stan basically is The Cat.

Despite that, he lost. To Golubev.
Photobucket
I'm pleased he was able to end his 4583-match long losing streak and all, but did it have to be against Stan? (And then he completely blew it against Steps too.)

But someone else has been doing lots of awesome.
Photobucket
Kohli! Idk why Roddick seems to implode so often when he plays against Kohli...well, "so often" = twice, but I'm grateful for it. (I'm also staggered that that was really RAndy's first penalty point ever. Ever. Previous umpires have not been doing their jobs properly, tbh.)

Doesn't he look pretty when he's ball tossing.
Photobucket
*dreamy sigh*

(I'm not usually a subscriber to the idea that you can tell a player is doping by just looking at a picture of them in action, so many problems with that, but...seriously, Petko?)

Look who's going to be playing in the final at Newport:
Photobucket

unfff. I'm sure I've mentioned my height-disparity!kink before, and this scenario is only a little step down from this one in terms of omgwant:
Photobucket

Other tennis happenings:
* the Swiss were underwhelming, but crushed poor little Portugal anyway. Plus Stan and Roger were decidedly un-cuddly and un-sweet and un-cute for their whole match. Compared to previous Davis Cup matches, and Olympic matches, and Indian Wells matches anyway. (...Though maybe I'm a little biased, I was rooting for Stan and Steph to play the doubles. Because it's been OMG-ages since they played, and Stan/Roger played earlier this year. And Steph and Stan were together first, and really it's not like they can play doubles at other tournaments, whereas Federinka could all the time, if they could be arsed. Except Steph got a wildcard for Gstaad, so he and Stan can play together there - hopefully repeating their run to the final *dreams*)
Photobucket

Also, mini!Stan was there. I want one.
Photobucket
(And she was there with her tremendously hot mama, which Blick says means Stan and her are back together. I assumed it more just showed that Ilham isn't a bellend (and we knew that already, she's a mega-classy lady) and let her little girl see her papi play. Also, I can't find the pics of Stan's alleged "South American beauty" to compare and it's probably someone else entirely, but who's that lady behind Yves here?)
Photobucket
Yves himself shouldn't be left out of consideration when talking about Stan's potential partners I feel. And I love that cute smiley guy at the top right. Stan should go out with him. (...Ilham deserves better.)

* Germany were a mess. Flo managed to suffer a complete physical collapse while being 2 sets up and lost, Kohli kept doing the difficult things right - getting breaks back, etc - and then ballsed up tie breaks, Petzsche and Kas blew all their chances. And they all looked bored/awkward/fugly in the team photo. What a disappointing tie.
Photobucket

At least the French were cute when they won.
Photobucket

* Aspelin (and Lindstedt) won. I'm still hoping he changes his mind about retiring.

* Ferru beat RAndy in straights. And Feli beat Mardy. And the Bryans won. Sorry Americans/Andy-fans/Fish-fans/Verdasco&Granollers-fans, but for me this tie couldn't be going any better.

* South Africa lead the Netherlands 2-1. I know the Dutch are thiemo-less, but still wasn't expecting that. Hoping Tommy can get a win (...seems like only 20 minutes ago I was all excited about him playing his first tour match, now he's in the Top 100 and playing live Davis Cup rubbers...time flies).

* Darcis is in a final. But AHM is injured :/

"Wassup, my Manislas! So I booked our weekend away together. How does 25th-28th March strike you?"
"Don't we have to do tennis that weekend?"
"What, are you sure?"
"Yeah, Miami! I'm so excited, I've got a lovely draw, getting to the quarters again looks achievable."
"But the hotel's non-refundable..."
"Offer it to Verdasco and Lopez?"
"I was just looking forward to it, you know? After having to watch you playing doubles all last week, with him...Why don't you ever want to play doubles with me? We could play doubles in Madrid, or Rome."
"...So anyway, Andy, about this weekend."
"Yes?"
"Well, if we both lose our first match, we'll be done by Friday."
"And we'll have the whole week after free too! Let's swim with dolphins, that always looks so romantic."
"Like Ljubicic and Starace?"
"Exactly."
"And you don't think there'll be any knock to your reputation by losing to challenger-level American qualifiers in back-to-back Masters tournaments?"
"Nah. Don't worry about it."

...And so, with Kohli down a break in the third, it is now Mardy Fish upon whom I am relying to salvage my Fantasy Tennis team in this tournie. Ungood times.
